Joni Ernst Apologizes For Her Bigoted Past
By Jason Frerichs
Joni Ernst recently reached out to Progressive Voices of Iowa to apologize for her past hatred of the LGBTQ community. During her time as a State Senator, Ernst attempted to write bigotry into the state constitution by defining marriage between one man and one woman. She also stated that she would support a federal ban on same-sex marriage.
Senator Ernst issued the following statement, “I realize that I have been a very hateful and mean-spirited person for a very long time. I believed that a very poorly translated section of the Bible that actually refers to violence and idolatry referred to homosexuality. It does not. It does not refer to loving relationships.”
Joni Ernst also touched on the topic of immigration. In the past, she has been against any type of amnesty for undocumented immigration. She has opposed giving citizenship to migrants who were brought to the United States as children. She said, “I know that I have not followed the Bible despite my claim to be a Christian. Leviticus 19: 33-34 clearly states, ‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them.’ I have not lived by those words. ‘The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God’. Neither of one of the major political parties will acknowledge that US meddling in Latin America has caused the current situation on our southern border.”
Joni Ernst also said, “I have not respected the earth. I have put corporate profits over the interests of Iowa. I have voted to allow polluters to harm our waterways. I have voted to loosen regulations that have made rural Iowa a very stinky place to live. I have not loved my neighbor as I have loved myself. My career and self-interest have been more important than improving the lives of every day Iowans.”
In her final statement to PVI Joni had the following to say, “I have been guilty of worshiping false idols. Instead of worshiping God I have worshiped money. I have been a shill for the Koch Brothers and too cowardly to call out the treason committed by Donald Trump. I have been a corporate Toadie and a pathetic example of what a Christian should aspire to be. I humbly ask your forgiveness.”
Disclaimer: If you believe this is true you probably went to Trump University. If you believe Joni Ernst could be a decent human being I have some beachfront property in Arizona I’ll sell you real cheap.
