From the Desk of the Editor: We Are PVI
By Brian McLain
On May 1st, 2019, everything changes for PVI.
Progressive Voices of Iowa started September 2016 as an idea among a few like-minded people who were up late at night trying to figure out a way to extend the reach of Progressive news and stories. We wanted to provide a source for the Progressive base to keep them informed of the latest news and events. We wanted to provide a platform for voices that would typically not be heard. We wanted to empower and lift up those who wanted change and felt alone, unable, or didn’t know where to start. Unfortunately, we were hampered by the limitations of our hosting plan but thanks to a generous donation from one of our readers we were able to find a better host plan that would allow us to finally meet those goals.
On May 1st, PVI will officially become a platform for the people. Readers will be able to submit their own articles, promote their own event, and view financial information regarding donations to the site and expenditures for PVI. Progressives will be able to share their stories, amplify issues that they care about, promote candidates that they support, and inform people of events and organizations that are working for a better world. Articles and events will be moderated based on a simple set of guidelines. Articles may be submitted in any language, by any person of any party or non-party affiliation, as long as their story or information deals with a Progressive issue. For example, an article written by Rachel Hoff, the RNC’s first openly gay national platform committee member about her experiences as such would be published. An article lauding Joe Biden’s past record as “progressive” would likely not.
The formal editorial board shall also be disbanded, meaning that this will be my last article as Editor in Chief of Progressive Voices of Iowa. While I will continue to be the administrator of the website and some of the former editors will assist with moderating articles and maintaining our social media presence, we are all writers that are subject to the same guidelines.
Our readers are now also our writers. Your stories, your experiences, your views, your activism.
We are PVI.
We are all PVI.
