After winning the majority on Election Day but coming up short of the number needed to avoid a run off, progressive candidate, Ashley Vanorny, was declared the winner of the run off election for the Cedar Rapids District 5 City Council seat.
Final vote count with 100% of precincts reporting
Ashley Vanorny – 1437
Justin K. Shields – 922
Vanorny’s win caps off a tremendous run by progressives in municipal races throughout Iowa and throughout the country, proving that the fire is still burning.
Iowa 1st District Congressional Candidate, Courtney Rowe congratulated Vanorny posting on her Facebook: “Congratulations to Ashley Vanorny! Grassroots campaigns win! Excited to have her voice on the City Council.”
Progressives now set their sights on 2018 in hopes of winning back Iowa for the people.
