First quarter fundraising numbers were announced today by Democrat Kim Weaver, running against incumbent Steve King for the US House seat in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Since forming an exploratory committee March 4th, Weaver has raised just under $180,000 from over 6,800 individual donations — more than the campaign raised for the entire 2016 cycle.
“I’m especially proud of the real grassroots support we’re receiving — our average gift has been right around $26.00. Unlike Steve King, I won’t accept any money from Corporate PAC’s, because I’m not running to represent them, I’m running to represent the people of NW Iowa”.
Over the last month, more than 400 people have signed on to volunteer with the campaign. Additionally, on Facebook and Twitter, the campaign gained nearly 22,000 new followers in March alone.
“We’re overwhelmed at the support and attention this campaign is receiving. The number of people stepping up to volunteer is what’s going to fuel our field program across the district and give us a real chance to win this election. People know all about the divisive things Steve King says, we plan on shining a spotlight on his voting record which is even worse.”
