Sevadio Becomes First Ever Woman to Chair Veterans Caucus
Progressive Shelly Servadio of Muscatine is many things in the Progressive movement. She is a US Army veteran, nurse, advocate, and activist. She was a delegate for Senator Bernie Sanders last year and is also a founder of the Iowa Hemp Association. Today she also officially became the first female to chair the Iowa Democratic Party Veterans Caucus.
Sevadio, being duly elected as Vice Chair at last year’s connection, was designated acting Chair by the Caucus to fill the vacancy left by outgoing Chair, Caleb Humphrey.
Servadio has made headlines in the past with her advocacy for veteran care and treatment. She has long advocated for the legalization of whole plant medicinal cannabis, delivered a physical copy of a several thousand signature petition to the door of Senator Grassley on behalf of Iowa vets to end his endorsement of Trump, and spent most of last year drafting a bill that would afford a greater quality of physical and mental health care for veterans in the state.
