In a statement released earlier today, the Army Corp of Engineers denied an easement that would have allowed the Dakota Access Pipeline to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. The water protectors are celebrating the victory, however are remaining vigilant. With the Obama administration going out and the Trump administration coming in, there may likely be an appeal filed soon by DAPL to continue the project. Trump is both a vocal supporter and an investor in the DAPL project.
Standing Rock Tribal Chairman Dave Archambault II , offered his own statement in response.”Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will not be granting the easement to cross Lake Oahe for the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline. Instead, the Corps will be undertaking an environmental impact statement to look at possible alternative routes.”

This battle was hard fought and this victory has been earned. We here at PVI reaffirm that we stand with Standing Rock and offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to all of the Water Protectors. Mni Wiconi!
