In Memoriam: Progressive Activist and Journalist, Scott Galindez
It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we announce the passing of a member of our PVI family. Scott Galindez was a fiery activist, advocate, and journalist who fought with everything he had for what he believed. He was a talented video editor and organizer. He was a fantastic writer and a passionately fought against the very flaws in the for-profit healthcare system that eventually took his life. He was a friend and he will be sorely missed.
In spite of his health issues, Scott worked with all his might to fight for the change he wanted to see in the world. Earlier this year in February, he helped to organize the Des Moines healthcare rally that joined with the nationwide effort to demand the protection of the ACA and its evolution to a national single payer healthcare system.
He was also a talented journalist, publishing in Reader Supported News and here on Progressive Voices of Iowa, and provided professionally shot and edited video of people and events. Scott sought to empower people with the truth, and he did so with energy and love.
On September 25th of this year, Scott published one of his most poignant journalistic pieces he ever published. In it, he tells his story of his dealings with the for-profit healthcare industry with a final call for single payer so that “nobody will ever have to go without healthcare again” as he did. The next day, he was gone.
We here at PVI send our deepest condolences to Scott’s family, his friends, and his fans. We mourn beside you now and as we continue to fight beside you to honor Scott and his legacy and continue to fight for the right of a universal, single payer system that ensures that the men, women, and children get the healthcare they need.
We encourage our readers to read Scott’s final article here at Reader Supported News and please take the time to make a donation to RSN as they will be helping to cover the expense of the funeral arrangements.
We will post details of when and where the services will take place as they become available.
